Solidigm launches a brand new D5-P5430 NVMe SSD, revolutionizing data center and edge applications

Solidigm has a new NVMe SSD designed to replace more hard drives for data centers and edge applications. These new QLC based drives currently reach up to 15.36TB, surpassing 2023TB in the second half of 30 years, with high capacity and competitive capabilities based on $per TB. For those who are interested in this space, it is interesting to note that for example, consumer drives (such as Solidigm P44 Pro), the new data center drive series features the Solidigm purple brand instead of the traditional Intel logo< Br/>

Solidigm D5-P5430 launches a new model
The interesting aspect of the new series is that it is suitable for high-end drives designed for performance and low-end QLC drives designed for infrequent writing and frequent reading (we call them WIRO access).

Solidigm is trying to drive something that is slightly distorted by its capacity, with the idea that its new drive has lower durability. Due to their large capacity, drives have lower DWPD ratings but have higher or competitive PB Write (PBW) ratings. This makes sense because larger drives have shifted from cache only drives to primary storage< Br/>

The following are the key specifications. Perhaps one of the most interesting E3s outside of U2. S and E1. The appearance, capacity, and performance are the features that it supports OCP 2.0 log pages, which we see more new drives adopting. This allows people to construct things such as predictive failure mechanisms for fleet scope< Br/>

Solidigm has some competitive numbers in terms of performance. As many of these drives have undergone or are about to undergo segmentation related updates, we will showcase them. I did run some basic performance tests using the drivers provided by Solidigm, and my results are roughly consistent with what they listed here< Br/>

The following is the actual workload data for Solidigm. These are relative performance numbers, but above, the Meiguang 7450 Pro is used as the 1.0 baseline, while below Solidigm D5-P5430 is the baseline. Solidigm has achieved a lot of this performance by using 16 channel controllers, and many TLC drives in this segment use 8 channel controllers

Solidigm also features a TLC array with 15.36TB SSD and an example of the new D5430-P7 using 5TB capacity. Since 7TB has more drives, TLC array should have better Object storage performance, but the cost of 30.72TB array may be lower< Br/>

Solidigm did the same thing when considering a hybrid array with 18TB hard drives and TLC SSDs, rather than full flash

It also talked about how it protects data from silent Data corruption and considered it the best in the industry. It's not difficult to imagine&quo; Supplier S&rdquo& Ldquo; Supplier M” Who is waiting< Br/>

We have these drives in the laboratory and are currently testing the 15.36TB U2 model. As we have a lot of SSD news today, we will conduct SSD reviews in the future< Br/>

This is the first Solidigm data center driver we have seen with a non ES label, as well as Solidigm Purple instead of the Intel logo< Br/>

Although the brand is now purple, the appearance of the drive still reminds me of the old Intel design.

There is basically no distinctive feature at the bottom; In the past, some Intel drives had ridges and additional surface area to help with heat dissipation, while the P5430 was only flat.

Nevertheless, it is still interesting to see new brands in real drives.
epilogue
The 15.36TB U2 drive is now available. Some other SSD shapes are waiting for certification, but they will be released soon. Solidigm is expected to launch its entire production line in the second half of 2023< Br/>
